The Kravis Center will take on a jazzy vibe as Marcie Gorman and MNM Theatre Company present “Five Guys Named Moe.”

The show, playwright Clarke Peters’ tribute to jazz master Louis Jordan and his music, will run Sept. 8-Sept. 24 in the Rinker Playhouse.

“Five Guys Named Moe” offers a life lesson for a man named Nomax, who’s down on his luck and stuck with the blues.

Five guys named Moe — Big Moe, Little Moe, Eat Moe, No Moe and Four Eyed Moe — seemingly emerge from nowhere in Nomax’s apartment with dance and songs like “Caldonia,” “Azure Te,” “Choo Choo Ch’Boogie” and others to help him get his life back on track.

Directed and choreographed by Dreyfoos School of the Arts alumnus Jacquez Linder-Long, with musical direction by Bobby Peaco, the show will star James White III as Nomax, Don Seward as No Moe, Doriyan Caty as Eat Moe, T.J. Pursley as Little Moe, Michael Wallace as Four-Eyed Moe, and Leo Jasper Davis as Big Moe. Desir Dumerjuste is the show’s swing.

GardensArt to feature paintings by LaPierre

GardensArt is presenting ‘Florida Feeling’ impasto acrylic paintings by Sarah LaPierre. This exhibition is on display through Nov. 16, at the Palm Beach Gardens Tennis & Pickleball Center, 5110 117th Court N. Exhibit hours are 7:30 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 7:30 a.m.- 7 p.m. Friday and 7:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Sarah LaPierre is a painter based in West Palm Beach. She has been exhibiting with fine arts festivals and galleries throughout the state for over 10 years. Her heavily textured and vibrantly colorful paintings are inspired by her love of local flora and fauna and spending time outside, viewing each painting as an act of discovery, appreciation, and celebration of the subject.

As a second-generation artist, LaPierre’s late father, Joseph LaPierre, remains one of the biggest influences on her work, having passed down the love of palette knife techniques which has become a principal characteristic of her “thick paint” impasto style.

An art reception will be held 11:30 a.m.- 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9. Light brunch bites and refreshments will be provided. This event is free and open to the public.
